Aaron, PTA

Aaron is a fan of all things sports. He continues to play and coach basketball and baseball when he is not busy with his wife and four children. Aaron gained his exposure to physical therapy in high school while he was rehabbing from various sports related injuries. He pursued a degree in Physical Therapy and earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science as a Physical Therapist Assistant after graduating in 2000. Aaron also holds a Masters of Business Administration in Health Care Administration from Colorado Technical University. Aaron has 15 years of outpatient clinical experience in Sports Medicine and is also a Certified Personal Trainer. Aaron has worked at VSI for 13 years. He has taken additional course work in lower extremity biomechanics to evaluate and measure for custom foot orthotics.



Alesa graduated with honors from Chadron State College located in Chadron Nebraska in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She continued her education by earning her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She and her husband then moved to the D.C. Metropolitan area and began working at VSI, where she has been a welcome part of the team for the past 6 years. Alesa has continued her education, completing all 3 levels of training earning her certification in dry needling (CMTPT). She now specializes in identifying, examining and treating myofascial trigger points to further expand on her focus in sports injuries and general orthopedics. In her free time, Alesa enjoys snowboarding, hiking and leading an active lifestyle with her husband and 2 dogs.


Dianne, PTA

Dianne has been a valued employee at Virginia Sportsmedicine Institute for over 30 years and is our longest tenured physical therapy team member. Dianne is certified in kinesiology taping to help aid athletes in a faster return to play. Dianne helped design our testing, training and rehab programs used by many of the top tennis players in the world. She and her husband Mark have three daughters; one living with her husband in Florida, one studying at Penn State University and her youngest will graduate high school in 2017. She is also the proud grandmother to her grandson Oliver.



Kelly graduated with honors from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She continued her education by earning her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree from Marymount University. Kelly is currently working towards her Trigger Point Dry Needling Certification. She has lived in the Northern Virginia area her entire life, and discovered her love of Physical Therapy after numerous injuries from competitive gymnastics.


Maureen, DPT, CMTPT

Maureen graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with her Bachelor's Degree in exercise and sport science. While there, she competed as a Division 1 softball player. From there, she went on to get her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree from Marymount University in 2006. During her studies at Marymount, she completed an internship at VSI and was asked to join the staff right after graduation. Maureen has a strong background in SI joint dysfunction and correction. She also completed all 3 levels of training earning her certification in dry needling (CMTPT). These specialties give Maureen a greater insight into developing treatment program for her patients.


Katriona, OTD, OTR/L, CHT, CLT-UE

Katriona attained her B.S. in psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 where she spent time researching medications' effects on the body. This changed after meeting an occupational therapist who specialized in rehabilitation of the arm and hand after traumatic injury. She went on to pursue a doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy at Washington University in St Louis, MO. After graduation, she spent 3 years working closely with a hand surgeon at Children's National Medical Center in Washington D.C. Seeking to learn more, she applied for and was accepted to the Evelyn J. Mackin hand therapy fellowship at The Philadelphia Hand Center in Pennsylvania. Upon completion, she returned to the local area where she joined a hand therapy team at major local hospital and attained her Board Certification in Hand Therapy (CHT). Now a part of the VSI team, she enjoys teaching at local hospitals and therapy schools, volunteering with the American Hand Therapy Association (ASHT), and keeping active through barre/pilates/TRX.



Mike received his bachelor's degree in psychology at Radford University. While at Radford he played rugby, earned his first degree black belt in Hop Ki Do, and studied martial arts. Mike continued his education earning an Associate's Degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant in 2000. After years of working in the physical thearpy field he went on to graduate from Neumann University with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. Mike continues to improve his skills and knowledge through continuing education courses with a focus on manual therapy and functional mechanics. He is currently working towards his Trigger Point Dry Needling Certification. Outside of work, Mike likes to run, strength train, and do CrossFit to help him keep up with his wife and son.


Theresa, PT

Theresa graduated from Florida International University (FIU). She spent five years on Active Duty in the United States Navy prior to graduating from FIU. Theresa was commissioned into the United States Naval Reserve as a Medical Service Corps Officer in 1984. During that time she performed one weekend a month and 2 weeks active duty service each year working as a Physical Therapist at various military installations throughout the United States and overseas locations. Theresa was recalled to Active Duty during Operation Desert Storm. She has worked as a Physical Therapist since 1983, spending the first 10 years working in a rehabilitation facility specializing in Neurological Rehabilitation. She joined Virginia Sportsmedicine Institute in 1993 and has remained on staff for over 22 years as one of our longest tenured therapists. Theresa specializes in sports medicine and general orthopedics. She is currently working towards her Trigger Point Dry Needling Certification.


Meghan, DPT

Meghan received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Medical College of Virginia in 2013. She attended James Madison University and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Meghan is licensed through the Virginia State Board of Health Professions and is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. She has a special interest in orthopedics, pediatrics, and sports-related rehabilitation. She has taken advanced coursework in myofascial release techniques.

Meghan is a native of Northern Virginia; born in Fairfax and attending high school in McLean. She has participated in competitive sports including rowing (crew), swimming, track, and field hockey, and was a swimming instructor/life guard throughout high school and college. She continued to swim competitively at the Club level in college, and also developed the Intramural Field Hockey program at James Madison University. She continues to keep active with fitness training, dancing, and running.


Tom, DPT

Tom graduated from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He continued his education by earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree from Marymount University. Tom\u2019s main interests lie in outpatient physical therapy, post-op rehabilitation, and sports medicine.\u00a0 His clinical experience spans numerous affiliations, including outpatient orthopedics and acute care rehabilitation. He has also volunteered physical therapy services to those in need in rural parts of Costa Rica. He is a native of Northern Virginia and in his free-time, Tom is enjoys running, strength training, hiking and kayaking.
